The Clean, Green, and Safe program provides enhanced community services beyond those the city provides. Services include graffiti and little removal, weeding, sidewalk sweeping, and infrastructure improvements such as the purchase and installation of trash receptacles, Dog stations, and community banners. In addition to providing canyon and trail beautification in the four community canyons, the program maintains landmarks like the South Park clock and Golden Hill signs. In addition, the program also hosts cleanups to engage neighbors and businesses in the care of our community. You can follow @cleangreensafe for updates on what the program is doing for our community.
This program has really helped my neighborhood become much cleaner and safer since it has been running. However, I hear there’s some opposition to an assessment district which would threaten this program, and I really hope that doesn’t happen.
From a twitter source:
As I have mentioned, the existence of the Golden Hill Maintenance Assessment District is being threatened by a lawsuit that is to be presented on Thursday. It is a suit by a few local property owners against the City for the formation of the Maintenance Assessment District in Golden Hill. From what I can gather, the hearing will take place this Thursday @ 9 am at the Central Courthouse @ 220 West Broadway, Dept 47 (Old Court House North). While there will be no public testimony or witnesses, a show of support from those who have realized the benefits from the Clean, Green and Safe Program are being encouraged to show their support in the courtroom as that can make a difference. The judgement will have bearing on the future of other maintenance assessment districts in the long haul, but as I see it, if the Clean, Green and Safe Program is abolished, the resources that have helped to keep our neighborhood cleaner and safer will be no more. I believe it’s completely legitimate to question where the money goes in an assessment district, but completely abolishing a service that helps this neighborhood thrive would be detrimental to the place we like to call home.
